The Department of Physics at IIT Palakkad started functioning from August 2015, and is currently engaged in teaching and research in the forefront of experimental and theoretical physics. Facilities
The Department currently has a teaching laboratory to cater the needs of undergraduate/post-graduate students, which is equipped with experimental setups that can boast of the latest technologies. For conducting advanced research, IIT Palakkad has set-up different central facilities namely Chandra High Performance Computing Cluster, Central Instrumentation and Central Micro-Fabrication Facility (CIF and CMFF), and a Central Facility for Materials and Manufacturing Engineering (CFMM). The Library of IIT Palakkad has an exquisite and updated collection of books covering a wide range of topics spanning core as well as advanced research level topics.

How to reach (Detailed guide)
IIT Palakkad currently operates from two campuses -- Nila Campus, and Sahyadri Campus. The two campuses are side-by-side, and the offices of the members of the Department as well as the facilities are distributed over both campuses. Nila and Sahyadri campuses are connected to the Coimbatore International Airport through the NH544. Nearest railway stations to IIT Palakkad are the Palakkad Junction Railway Station, known as the Olavakkode Junction, and the Palakkad Town Railway Station.
