Module 1: Angular momentum algebra

Eigenstates and eigenvalues of angular momentum, Addition of angular momenta, Clebsch-Gordan coefficients .

Module 2: Approximation Methods

( Lecture hours: 20 , Tutorial hours: 0 , Lab hours: 0 )

Time-independent perturbation theory: non-degenerate and degenerate cases with examples, WKB method, Variational method, Time-dependent perturbation theory, Interaction picture, Dyson series and transition probabilities, Interaction of atom with electromagnetic radiation, Emission and absorption of photons, Fermi's golden rule .

Module 3: Relativistic Quantum Mechanics

Klein-Gordon equation, Dirac equation, Spinors, Negative energy solutions and their interpretation .

Module 4: Scattering

Lippmann-Schwinger equation, Scattering amplitude and cross section, Born approximation .

Module 5: Path integral approach to Quantum Mechanics

Kernel, propagator and transition amplitudes, Feynman's path integrals, Examples of free particle and harmonic oscillator .
